Accessibility & governance
Every family should be able to find and register for camp, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, captions or switch devices.
Our standard
- Built to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the same standard named in Charles County Government's website terms (ADA/WCAG 2.1 compliance).
- Every new screen is checked with an automated accessibility scan and a keyboard-only and screen-reader pass before it ships.
Screen readers
- Real headings, landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer) and labeled form fields so VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS and TalkBack announce the page correctly.
- Bree's chat and the tour announce new messages and slides as they appear.
- Every photo has a text description; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Icon-only buttons (cart, mic, mute) have spoken names.
Keyboard and motor access
- Everything works with a keyboard alone. A "Skip to main content" link is the first thing you reach with Tab.
- Focus is always visible, pop-ups trap focus while open and close with Escape, and nothing closes on a timer.
- Large tap targets for phones and switch devices.
Vision, hearing and cognitive access
- Text and buttons meet AA color contrast in light and dark themes; text resizes to 200% without breaking.
- Every narrated tour slide has written captions. Autoplay can be turned off and motion reduced, and the site follows your device's reduced-motion setting.
- Plain-language copy, one main action per screen, and a phone line to a person: (301) 932-3480.
Governance
- Follows Charles County Government's website Terms & Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy.
- Families' data is used only to run their registrations. No selling or sharing, and texts and emails go only to people who opted in, with an easy way to stop.
- AI agents act under staff supervision; every agent action is written to the audit log in the Back Office.
- Marketing posts can be pulled by the County at any time.
